DOODLES

I'm working on some bigger pieces right now, so until they're done I'm going to post some sketchbook doodles.

Here are some quick drawings I did of my cat Lester:

He's totally a cat punk, always keeping me company during marathon drawing seshs:

Institutionalized

Last month I had the fantastic opportunity to work with En Masse on a part of the exhibit that's just opened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal. The show is called Big Bang and runs until January 22, 2012.

Basically, they gave us a whole giant museum room to do whatever we wanted on the walls, working within the theme of drawing inspiration from a work from the museum's collection. More info on the show here: http://www.mbam.qc.ca/BIGBANG/splashpage_fr.html

Up Da Musée

I'm most excited about being in a group show with MELISSA AUF DER MAUR YES. Although her time in Hole was not my favorite of the band's, she was proof to me growing up that a girl from Montreal could have BIG DREAMS.

VERUCA SAYS NO

I wanted to take a photo of something I'm working on but ...

Here are a couple of details of a recent En Masse wall I participated in, taken with my mini handy cam. It's in the studio at Musique Plus, which is like the Much Music or MTV of Quebec. They played sooo much System Of a Down and Jean Leloup while we drew. Better photos later! enmasse.info

summer things

It's been a long summer! Here are a couple of album covers I've done lately.

Secret Police 7"

Secret Police are a punk band from New Jersey. They've got a total 80's hardcore vibe that I really love. They're on tour all summer. Here's where you can hear their stuff: http://secretpolicehc.blogspot.com.

Lantern 7"

(It folds in the middle)

Zachary Fairbrother from Lanterns told me that I could do pretty much whatever I wanted for this one. It was pretty easy, because their music is really sexy and rock and roll and they've got this cool guy/girl thing going on. These blues punxxx are from Philadelphia and are also on tour all summer. http://lntrn.tumblr.com/

Bad Habits

I recently did some artwork for a single by a Montreal band called Naughty Girls. You won't find their web site if you just google "naughty girls", if you know what I mean :P ;] ;] :o.

You can hear their music here.

Obey Convention + Live on CKDU

oh haiii

A little while back I got asked to do the artwork and branding for Obey Convention IV, a super cool music and arts festival that's been happening for the last few years in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was pretty stoked because 1 - it's mostly all organized by Darcy Spidle, who runs the very neat label Divorce records (www.divorcerecords.ca), 2- it's arguably the only festival of it's kind on the east coast, and 3- the lineup this year looks awesome and I wish I could go. Check out who's playing and what's up here: www.divorcerecords.ca.

If you're in the Halifax area or maybe just sitting at your desk at work wherever you happen to be, tune in to CKDU (88.1 FM) to hear my nasal, valley-girl voice. I'll be chatting with the folks at Third Wave Radio this Thursday, May 27, sometime between 1 pm and 2:30pm EST (that's 2-3:30pm Halifax time).

Here is a poster I made for the new show by the dance group Wants and Needs (www.wantsandneeds.ca)

Finally, here is a photo of a cake my roommate, Dom, and I made when we were feeling lousy. It may be hard to read, but it says "FTW" and has bleeding bullet holes.

music

I play guitar in a punk band called Dead Wife and we have a single out on Psychic Handshake and No Vacation records. Psychic Handshake is the record label I started with my friends Graeme and Shaun and this is our fourth release. We're putting out another single at the same time by another Montreal-based band called Tonstarssbandht.

You can read a review of Dead Wife - DWSYHF here.

The Dead Wife artwork package is really neat, too. The insert is a fold-out poster. Here is a preview of a little part of it:

Also, in Montreal records are available at Sound Central and Cheap Thrills.
